Los Angeles, CA (March 5, 2013) – On March 15-16 in LA, 150 of the US and World’s HOTTEST and MOST ATHLETIC pole dance artists will come together at the Los Angeles Convention Center to participate in the Pacific Pole Championships. Pole Sport has become an international craze that’s gone from the club to the living room, to the bedroom, to the gym. It’s not about taking clothes off, in fact, in 2013 there are over 3,000 Pole Specific clubs and gyms instructing the art of Pole Dancing.
The Pacific Pole Championships event is part of an event series that was created by the Pole Sport Organization in 2012. Founded by Amy Guion, a United States Pole Dance Federation Pro, BeSpun instructor, USPDF 2011 Amateur silver medalist and California Pole Dance Championship 2011 bronze medalist; and Bayleigh Pettigrew, one of Amy’s artistic coaches and former ice skater. In 2012, the event grew from a small community movement to a large national brand. “We’ve received a huge amount of support from other dancers and pole dance companies with these events,” says Amy Guion. “We wanted to start an event that was by the community, for the community.”
Pole Sport Organization’s motto of “Aspiration. Inspiration. [r]Evolution” is accurate. The interest in the event is high as registration to compete at the second annual PPC sold out within 72 hours of opening.
On March 15 & 16th, United Pole Artists presents: the 2013 Pacific Pole Championships (PPC) in Los Angeles at the LA Convention Center. Contestants will compete for multiple titles in pole dance fitness, including categories for Dramatic, Entertainment, Championship, and Showcase performances. Within the categories, dancers compete at 4 levels of skill and through 3 age groups. They are evaluated on multiple elements including technique, difficulty, balance of program, musicality, and stage presence.
The PPC event will draw around 150 volunteers who act as judges, backstage managers, registrars, and announcers, and about 500 spectators over the course of the weekend. The Championship Level 4 event will also be streamed live at MFEO.tv on the evening of Friday, March 15.
Part of a series of 4 regional pole dance fitness events leading up to a Nationals’ event will take place during late summer of 2013.
Other events are:
Atlantic Pole Championships (Herndon, May 11-12)
Central Pole Championships (Chicago, May 25)
Southern Pole Championships (Miami, June 5-6)
The top 3 competitors from the Level 4 Championship event at each regional event will advance on to the Nationals event. The Nationals event will crown the US National Pole Champion, with a grand prize sponsored by United Pole Artists of $10,000 for the winner.
MORE ON AMY GUION & BAYLEIGH PETTIGREW: A former ballet dancer with a degree in Natural Science from Loyola Marymount University, Guion discovered pole dancing in 2008 and spent the past 4 years competing in pole dance fitness both nationally and internationally. Pettigrew was previously a competitive figure skater and skating coach, and a partnership to produce events between the two seemed natural after they worked together on Guion’s award winning routine at the California Pole Dance Championships in 2011. Amy is a Pole Sport Organization co-founder, a USPDF Pro, BeSpun instructor, USPDF 2011 Amateur silver medalist, California Pole Dance Championship 2011 bronze medalist and creator of the flexibility training program, Bendability Fitness.
