Pole World News (PWN) was launched in April 2012 by co-founders Eileen Shoals and Klaus Price. Our mission is to promote positive pole expression by presenting the personalities of the pole community and pole dance fitness in a positive, dynamic light. The PWN vision includes creating events that merge the growing pole and aerial industry with global standards of achievement and success, such as the celebrated Annual PWN Awards.
As the co-founder of Pole World News, I have spent the last 9 years of my life taking pole dance classes for fun and fitness. My involvement in this industry began in 2005 when I took an intro to pole dancing class in Los Angeles. I had been dancing my whole life, but aerial pole was new to me. I was mesmerized by the beauty of the movement. The instructors looked like fairies as they effortlessly climbed and flew around the pole so I eagerly enrolled to take classes regularly. I found that I loved the work out and strength-building exercises, but there was something that I loved even more than the physical fitness. I felt emotionally and mentally empowered. My spirit felt free and I came more alive. Another tremendous gift was the friendships that were created in these classes that I took two to three times a week. I met the most amazing women who are my dearest friends to this day. What I didn’t know at the time is that I was training with some of the future pole and aerial dance champions of the world. What started off as a fun workout with friends, turned into a major world-changing experience for me and several of my girl friends. Many of them went on to open up their own pole and aerial training studios, become aerial fitness instructors and compete nationally and internationally. Several of them left engineering, public relations, teaching positions and other professions to pursue pole and aerial arts full time. My friends who compete began to win championship after championship and I’m lucky enough to say that I am true friends with some of the most celebrated names in the industry. We didn’t realize it at the time, but we were training with the best of the best. I was so inspired by the relationships that we developed in our small community. I was so impressed by the love and support that I saw given to each other in the pole and aerial community. It does not matter if you are a novice student, amateur competitor or professional champion. People in the aerial arts community understand each other and truly validate anyone who has the courage to try any of these art forms. While my professional training has been mostly in the fields of Psychology and Radio-TV-film, I wanted to merge these fields of study with pole dancing. This became a reality with the launch of PWN. I’m so excited about the future of pole and all we can do with our platform!
I was exposed to the powerful impact pole dance fitness was having on people all over the world in 2008. I was inspired to create something positive with good energy because so many people outside of the pole and aerial arts community still minimize the strength and beauty of pole and aerial arts. I have over 28 years of experience in the entertainment industry, which has given me the opportunity to see Hollywood honors its stars firsthand . The creation of PWN is a celebration of the major pioneers who have taken all of the aerial arts to the next level. Supporting the aerial arts is something I am extremely passionate about. I too, continuously strive to affirm the community and industry. The First Annual PWN Awards ceremony and showcase on March 21, 2014 was our first major contribution towards honoring an incredible group of athletes and artists who truly deserve to be celebrated. Stay tuned… the best is yet to come!
