Local competitor Jacqui La Croix competed in her first comp two years ago and is hoping to improve on her second place result.

Ms La Croix said she’s been perfecting her routine for the past four months. the routine touches on heart break, love and empowerment.

She said the routine and pole dancing in general was empowering. “I love how I feel empowered and strong and I love the physical and mental challenge. There’s always some new move and there’s room to grow,” she said.

The competition kicks off today at 6pm at Charles Darwin University with tickets starting at $45.
