Have you ever had your skin hold you back from being yourself or made you feel insecure? Has your complexion stopped you from asking someone out or halted your social life?

It happens to the best of us. Your skin is often the first thing others notice, and it’s important to keep it in great shape whether you are a guy or a girl.

What’s often not said about better skin is that it is not just skin deep. It calls for good hydration from clean water, and giving yourself a facelift through good nutrition by avoiding those hydrogenated oils and artificial sweeteners that lay dormant in many food products.

Everybody say it with me… hi-draw-gin-ated oils. Just read the ingredients list of what you’re eating right now. It will wreak havoc on even the most resilient skin.

I will be honest. I used to have horrible acne and scars and I was terribly vigilant about putting makeup to hide it between classes. Then I went on a trip to Africa. The Africans had the most beautiful, shining, silky skin I’ve ever seen. I was lucky enough to get in on their little secret.

They combine raw, organic honey with bee pollen (which you can find at all the local health food stores here in Orem), and they would mix the two ingredients together with their hands and apply it to their skin at night. Sometimes, they let the “bee mask” absorb all through the night while they sleep.

Because I was desperate for something to work, of course I had to try it. After a month in Africa, and a few sticky pillowcases later, when I returned from my trip my hideous acne and scars had miraculously disappeared. Now, I am proud of my complexion and I never think twice about my skin looking fabulous.

Another fun and easy complexion cure for students is an avocado mask. Avocados are full of clean omega 3 oils and essential fatty acids, and applying it on your face for 20 minutes or so can absorb the enzymes necessary to enliven dead skin and loose pores. Girls, it’s time to add natural-face masks to the slumber party agenda.

A Utah legend, Dr. John Christopher, created herbal remedies from Utah’s ecosystem more than fifty years ago. He developed a fantastic little product called “Beauty Facial Cream” that works with herbs specifically to regenerate healthy skin.

The extra-virgin olive oil, aloe vera, comfrey root, skullcap herb and other ingredients within it have been used over the decades by herbalists to restore connective tissue and even remedy stretch marks and scarring. These little products are found in local health food stores as well, and is cheap, since a bottle can last up to six months.

I know from experience, that it’s easy to turn around your complexion and make it your best quality.

Even though many undergo heightened stress around the beginning of a new school year, suffer from hormonal changes or cheap lunches, you can be proud of your skin this year, feel radiant and “Get the Glow” more easily than ever before!
