In the past pole dancing was commonly associated with strip clubs but these days it’s a popular sport and form of exercise.

The top pole dancers from across the country will be heading to Crawley next month to battle it out in a national competition to be crowned the best in the sport.

The Miss Pole Dance UK Pole Dance Championships are now in their 11th year and the contest will be taking place at The Hawth on Saturday, October 8, and members of the public can attend to watch the skilled performers in the seven hour show.

In the past pole dancing was commonly associated with strip clubs but these days it’s a popular sport and form of exercise.

The show, which takes place between 3 and 10pm, looks set to be a breathtaking and mesmerizing celebration of elite pole artists and performers.

GRAVITY DEFYING: Amazing feats of strength

More than 30 competitors and 10 world class champions and dancers will be giving jaw-dropping performances on two four meter high poles where gravity seems to know no boundaries.

Moves require balance, flexibility, strength and courage as dancers contort themselves, balance on individual limbs and flip.

And neither is it just a dance form for women – men are impressive and strong pole dancers too and will be showing off their stuff when they compete for the title of Mr Pole Dance UK.

Dancers will even be competing in pairs for the Synchronized Doubles Championships.

In all, the largest national pole dance championships will see 13 women, six men and six doubles teams taking part, although there are none from Crawley.

Competitors will be hoping not only for the national champion titles but also for a place representing the UK at the World Pole Sport and Fitness Championships in China in 2017.

The celebrations will include show stopping performances from top performers and special guests from the world of pole dancing.

Look out for current Miss Pole Dance UK Champion Jess Leanne Norris, World Pole Dance Doubles Champions and former UK Doubles Champions Terri Walsh and Lisette Krol and Mr Pole Fitness UK Champion 2013 Daniel Rosen.
